A carat is a unit of weight, not size. A 2-carat diamond in one shape may not look the same as a 2-carat diamond of another, even if they weigh the same amount.
Also, the stone's proportions, which are a consequence of how it is cut, can affect how large it appears compared to its weight.
How carat weight is measured:
1 carat equals .200 grams. There are 100 "points" per carat.
