What defines true love? Does love naturally grow stronger or fade away over time? Although, our responses may lead to debate, we are surprised to hear when the strongest couples cannot overcome destiny. Long time love-birds and parents of three, Ben Affleck (42) and Jennifer Garner (43) have decided to divorce after ten years of marriage. Married in 2005 and raised three children together, Violet (9), Seraphina (6) and Samuel (3), Affleck and Garner just celebrated their wedding anniversary last Monday. This is heart-breaking news from the cutest couple, which constantly expressed their affectionate love in public.

Interestingly, Ben proposed to Jennifer with a Harry Winston 4.50 carats diamond solitaire engagement ring. Later, when she became mother of two girls, he presented her with a diamond eternity band, completing her engagement ring!

Together, they earned millions of dollars. More specifically, their combined income is estimated to exceed $115 Million. In a joint statement, Ben and Jennifer stated, “After much thought and careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to split. This should not be an ugly divorce.” They added, “We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding.”

Their disappointing news has pained millions of hearts and fans worldwide. Although deeply saddened to hear, we are glad to hear about their mutual respect, maturity and sensitivity, keeping their children a priority. In fact, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have decided to still live together.

What are your thoughts about their divorce? Do you think living together after splitting up is a wise decision? Do you think they made the right choice, or could their marriage have been saved? What is the threshold for making (or breaking) when marital problems arise?

  1. I feel that if they had to live together, what was the need for divorce? Is a piece of paper so important?

    1. Hello Jennifer,

Divorce is never easy, whether for the couple itself, their families and friends, but it’s a part of life, no matter how unfortunate. A piece of paper is important, but the feeling of being able to move forward in life because of the paper creates more meaning. They are living together for their children, which many do not consider enough, but we always need to keep them involved, consider their feelings, and what is best for them. Often times, it’s the children that suffer more than the couple. A divorced couple suffers financially and socially, but the bigger long-term impact is emotionally, which cannot be repaired, nor can the hole in their hearts be filled in with ease.

  2. I don’t understand what the couple is up to?
One side they announce to split, and on the other side, they want to live together.
Ben has taken off his wedding ring, but why Jennifer still wears it on?

    1. Hello Roscoe,

Great observations. We had many questions about these factors that our heads scratch. It’s very interesting that they announced a split, but also went on vacation recently, and are planning to live together. There are many speculations for why Ben Affleck took his wedding ring off, but Jennifer still wears hers. Some rumors say that Ben has someone else in his life, while others say Jennifer is not ready to let go. No matter how many speculations and rumors existed for this celebrity admired couple, it’s all about the children, how they are effected by their parents’s decisions, what will their life be in the long-term. Unfortunately, the divorce rate in the USA alone is over 51%, more than half. Hopefully, we can find couples to be more committed with patience rather than instant gratification as marriage is meant to be forever in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer.
