“There’s a big difference in falling in love with someone and falling in love with someone and getting married. Usually, after you get married, you fall in love with the person even more”. Dave Grohl, famous American Rock musician, singer-songwriter and producer, has, well expressed this definition and difference of love and marriage.

Beloved celebrities certainly think alike as they fall in love and plan their own weddings. They are on cloud nine until a significant problem arises, and they fall to the floor. The so-called planned wedding is called off! Many celebrity couples have shocked us over the years and left fans completely speechless.

Although speculations exist, we don’t know the exact reason(s) for why these long awaited weddings are called off. The shocking celebrity couples list is long, but we will talk about the most notable here:

Bristol Plain didn’t end up tying her knot with then fiancé Dakota Meyer as planned on May 23rd. Similarly, 24 year-old daughter of Sarah Palin won’t walk down the aisle with her intended groom.

In 2003, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were the hottest heartthrobs to get married. Just four days prior to their planned wedding in Montecito, California, they postponed the date, because of large media attention. But, soon after, they split up forever.

Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland invited around 200 people for their wedding in 1991. Just three days before the planned wedding date, the couple’s publicists announced that wedding has been postponed permanently.

In 1997, actress Patsy Kensit and Oasis singer Liam Gallagher cancelled their wedding due to extensive media publicity. Two months later, they tied the knot in a secret wedding ceremony. However, this fairy tale story doesn’t end happily ever after. They got divorced in 2000.

Popular actress and singer Diahann Carroll is bold enough to cancel her planned wedding twice, both with different partners! First, in 1965, she called it off with Oscar winner Sidney Poitier. Then, in 1972, as spring holidays approached, she canceled her second wedding on Easter with talk show host David Frost. Interestingly, she walked down the aisle just two weeks after with a Las Vegas businessman.

These love stories certainly surprised us, and even confused us. What do you think about these ‘called off’ weddings? Do you think their decision was wrong, or do you think they could have worked out their problems? Can excessive media attention break up wedding plans? Share with us your views.
