Unlike many other popular gemstones that were discovered centuries ago, morganite is relatively new. It was discovered in 1910 in Madagascar by gemologist George Kunz. Today, Madagascar is only a minor producer of the gemstone. However, the morganites obtained from here are still considered to be of top-notch quality. Currently, Brazil is the largest producer of morganites in the world.

2. The Gemstone Is Named after J.P. Morgan

American banker J.P. Morgan was a gemstone enthusiast and collector. When George Kunz discovered morganite in 1910, he decided to name it after his friend J.P. Morgan as a tribute for his contribution to the American Museum of Natural History. That’s how this beautiful gemstone got its name.

Due to its soft pink hue, morganite is often associated with warmth, love and innocence. This makes it the perfect gift for a loved one.
