Needless to say, today, people from all walks of life adore this gem with more and more individuals choosing to sleep with it for all the right reasons. But does sleeping with citrine really help and if so, what’s the best way to garner the benefits of the same?
Read on to find out the answers to these questions and more…
Let’s Get Right to It…Does Sleeping With Citrine Really Help?
The answer to this really depends on how strongly you believe in the jewel.
Generally speaking, citrine is considered by most to be the gemstone of protection. It is therefore used to dispel negative energy during one’s sleeping hours so that they can feel happy and refreshed the moment they wake up.
Having said that, it is worth noting that there’s actually no scientific evidence that backs the jewel’s ability to affect one’s sleep.
As such, if you’re someone who believes in the citrine’s power, it could work for you. On the other hand, if you prefer to rely on scientific facts then it probably won’t make any difference.
How Should You Sleep With a Citrine?
• Create a Sleeping Journal
We recommend doing this at least a week before you start sleeping with citrine. Here, track everything related to your sleep pattern. Examples of this include:
- How long do you usually take to fall asleep?
- How do you feel after you’ve woken up?
- For how many hours do you sleep?
- Do you fall into a deep slumber when you’re resting?
- How easily do you wake up?
- How much energy do you have during the day?
- Do you wake up in the middle of the night?
These questions will help you create a baseline against which you could test the benefits of your gemstone.
• Stick to a Schedule
It is often said that for the powers of a citrine to take effect, one must stick to a strict sleeping schedule starting at least one week in advance.
Not only that, but we also do not recommend making any changes to your room. This includes, but is not limited to using different oils and placing new crystals in your sleeping area.
• Try Different Placements
When it comes to the citrine, most people will tell you to sleep with it placed in certain areas such as inside your pillow case, in the westernmost corner of your mattress etc. We, however, suggest keeping your gemstone in different areas to figure out which placement works the best for you. Popular areas include on a nearby shelf, on your headboard, on the bedside table, under your mattress, etc. We recommend leaving the stone in each new location for several days and tracking its effect on your sleep.

How Should You Take Care of Your Citrine?
Given below are two major ways to take care of your citrine:
• Storage
When you aren’t using your citrine, we suggest placing your stone in a cloth bag and storing it in a cool, dry place away from your other gemstones. This will prevent it from getting scratched. We also do not recommend exposing your gem to extreme light as that could cause it to lose its color.
• Cleaning
When doing this, begin by placing your jewel in a lukewarm soap solution for 3-5 minutes. Next, gently scrub it with a soft-bristled brush to remove all the dirt. Once done, rinse the stone under running water and leave it aside to air dry.
Additional Notes:
- Ensure that the water is neither too hot nor cold as that could cause the stone to crack.
- Do not subject your stone to ultrasonic or steam cleaners as that can do more harm than good.
Did You Know?
That in the 20th century, large faceted citrines were used to create fine jewelry accessories like citrine earrings, for example. This was done to highlight the distinctiveness of the Art Deco period.

Moving on to other gemstones, we often get asked if sleeping with amethyst can actually improve an individual’s sleep. Unfortunately, much like in the case of citrine, there’s currently no scientific evidence that proves the same. That being said, if you believe in the amethyst’s powers, it could benefit you.
We also believe that the same could be said about the black onyx. However, if you’d like to get more information on the same, we recommend reading our article titled, ‘Sleeping with black onyx: Does it really help?’
